Kōke‘e Wish List
A WISH LIST FOR SANTA
There are so many ways to “Kokua Koke’e” and support Hui o Laka’s efforts in the parks, and so we began a tradition of letting Santa know what our needs are.
Santa’s Koke’e elves have delivered everything from a digital camera to a vacumn cleaner, a stove to enough PVC to plumb the whole CCC Camp. Take a look at this changing list, and see how you can kokua! All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.
Here’s the list!
Programs: Eo e Emalani I Alaka’, Hui o Laka’s feted celebration of Queen Emma’s ascent to the uplands of Waimea-uka in 1871 is a memorable cultural event loved by many. The event celebrated its 21st anniversary in 2009. The partial funding it has received for some years from Hawaii Tourism Authority may be in jeopardy because of recent economic down turns. You can support the continuation of this remarkable event. Here’s how:
- Sponsor inter-island air travel for a kumu hula (hula master) or festival musician! $300
- Sponsor lunch for a halau of 20! Hui o Laka feeds about 260 dancers and volunteers each festival. It now costs $7.50 to dish up an ono Hawaiian lunch. And of course, lunch for the elves who tuck this in the Koke’e stocking! $150
- Donate food or paper goods for the event.
- A front loading washing machine for the CCC Camp/large capacity.
Help Hui o Laka stay connected!
Every year Hui o Laka spend $1,000 on subscriptions to professional publications, as well as memberships in related non-profits and professional associations. Any number of elves can make sure Hui o Laka stays connected with important issues, training, and colleagues in the field! Pick an organzation or publication and send us the membership or subscription amount! You’ll be supporting another non-profit at the same time!
